Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has defended his penchant for dancing, saying the hobby has not affected his responsibilities or performance as governor.
Adeleke spoke on Tuesday at a town hall meeting organised by Arise TV for candidates contesting Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The governor said dancing was part of his personality and insisted that he remained committed to his duties.
“I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work,” Adeleke said.
He added that his administration had delivered projects across different sectors despite his public displays of dancing.
Adeleke also responded to criticism from Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who recently mocked him at an APC campaign rally in Osun and referred to him as the “dancing governor”.
“If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance,” Adeleke said.
The governor maintained that dancing was simply a hobby and had not affected his performance in office.
On his administration’s record, Adeleke said his government had constructed and rehabilitated roads across the state, with solar-powered streetlights installed on some of them.
He said the projects were aimed at improving security and supporting economic activity.
Adeleke also said his administration had upgraded and rehabilitated more than 200 primary healthcare facilities, providing them with electricity and clean water.
He added that qualified engineers had certified the projects carried out by his administration as meeting required standards.
Adeleke is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.
He is facing All Progressives Congress candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam and other candidates in Saturday’s election.
