Traditional rulers in Akwa Ibom State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno, pledging support for their re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came at the weekend at a special rally held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, where traditional rulers drawn from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District cited the developmental records and governance style of the trio as the basis for their decision.

‘Unprecedented Gathering of Traditional Rulers’

Chairman of the event and Itai Afe Annang, Obong Blaise Awakama, described the rally as historic, noting that it was the first time traditional rulers across different levels gathered to collectively endorse political leaders.

“The traditional rulers have seen the good deeds of President Bola Tinubu, who transformed Lagos State and whose economic reforms have increased funds available to states and local governments,” Awakama said.

He added that the monarchs were equally impressed by Akpabio’s record as a former governor, minister, and Senate President.

“From his time as governor, he turned Akwa Ibom into what we see today. As Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, he completed the NDDC headquarters, and as Senate President, he has championed people-oriented laws such as the Students Loan Act and the creation of Development Commissions,” he said.

Monarchs Praise Governor Eno’s Grassroots Focus

The traditional rulers also commended Governor Umo Eno for what they described as inclusive governance and peace in the state.

“He has not concentrated development in urban centres alone but has taken development to the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State,” Awakama said, describing the governor as a “God-sent Golden Boy.”

According to him, the rulers decided to publicly endorse the trio after witnessing what they termed acts of good governance.

Council Gives Unanimous Endorsement

Speaking after a unanimous voice vote, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Abak, His Royal Majesty Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia, said the endorsement reflected the collective position of the council.

“This endorsement represents our collective decision in recognition of proven leadership capacity, good governance, and sustained public service at both the federal and state levels,” Udofia said.

Eno, Akpabio Appreciate Gesture

Receiving the memorandum of endorsement, Governor Umo Eno described the support of the traditional institution as unprecedented and thanked the rulers for their continued backing.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who accepted the endorsement on behalf of himself and President Tinubu, described the gesture as uncommon and assured that the President remained committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.

Akpabio further urged the traditional rulers to mobilize their communities ahead of 2027.

“Akwa Ibom North West will double its votes for President Tinubu, Governor Eno and myself,” he said, calling on citizens to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
