The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General, Waidi Shaibu has reaffirmed the Army’s determination to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and decisively tackle emerging security threats in 2026.
In a Christmas and New Year message, Lieutenant General Shaibu said the military remains focused on strengthening its capacity to respond to security challenges across the country.
“Our loyalty and commitment to defending the Federal Republic of Nigeria remain unshakable,” he said, adding that the Army will “intensify efforts to tackle emerging threats and consolidate gains already achieved in all operational theatres.”
He said 2026 will see increased emphasis on combat readiness, improved counterinsurgency strategies and a stronger intelligence architecture to enhance operational effectiveness.
The Army Chief paid tribute to soldiers deployed in various theatres of operation during the festive season, praising their dedication and sacrifice.
“To all personnel serving in operational areas and unable to celebrate with their families, I salute your courage, discipline and selfless service,” he said.
Reassuring troops on welfare, Lieutenant General Shaibu said the leadership remains committed to improving living and working conditions, training and morale.
“We shall remain focused on deepening the morale and welfare of our personnel while strengthening professionalism and combat readiness,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Army’s loyalty to the Constitution and its support for democratic governance, calling for sustained cooperation with other security agencies and the public to ensure lasting peace and security in the country.
