Bayelsa Queens have advanced to the final of the WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over USFA of Burkina Faso on Tuesday night in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigerian champions were stunned early when USFA struck in the second minute, silencing the crowd and putting the Prosperity Girls under immediate pressure. But Bayelsa Queens quickly regained their composure, with Emem Essien restoring parity in the 15th minute to bring the contest back to life.
As the game wore on, the Nigerian side grew in confidence, with smart tactical changes from Coach Hakeem Busari proving decisive. Midfielder Janet Akekoromowei delivered the winning moment in the 62nd minute, calmly finishing to put Bayelsa Queens ahead. Her commanding performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
Coach Busari lauded his players for their resilience and fighting spirit, emphasizing their determination to chase continental glory.
With the win, Bayelsa Queens have booked their spot in Friday’s final against tournament hosts Côte d’Ivoire, where the ultimate prize will be a coveted ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
