The 2025 Beach Volleyball Star/Open Tour officially served off on Monday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, marking another major step in Nigeria’s growing beach volleyball calendar.
This year’s edition, the third in the national series, is organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) with strong backing from the Adamawa State Government. The tournament is being staged at the world-class beach volleyball courts of the Adamawa State Polytechnic (SPY), Yola.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation and President of the Africa Beach Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimord, said the tour is designed to identify new national team talents while deepening grassroots participation in beach volleyball across the country.
Nimrod, represented by NVBF Zonal Chairman and Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Commission, DCP Stephen Hasso, applauded the Adamawa State Government for its support and expressed confidence in the success of this year’s event.
“Let me thank the governor and the people of Adamawa State for giving us all the needed support,” he said. “So far, we have about 21 teams—both Star and Open categories—for male and female teams from across the country. We hope the players will make the best use of the world-standard facilities on ground here in SPY, Yola.”

He urged players and officials to adhere strictly to the rules, adding that Nigeria remains one of the continent’s strongest forces in beach volleyball.
“Nigeria’s Beach Volleyball Team is the second best in Africa, and I hope we can identify stars here who will help us take the first position on the continent,” he added.
Declaring the tournament open, the Director of Sports, Adamawa State, congratulated all participating teams and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing sports at all levels.
He assured that Adamawa would continue to invest in facilities, programmes, and competitions that promote youth engagement and sporting excellence.
