Nigeria has officially unveiled its representatives for the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Under-18 Youth Beach Volleyball Cup, scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from September 2 to 7, 2026.

The country will field two teams at the continental event, with Isaac James and Bobai Andrew leading the charge in the men’s category, while Pamela Bawa and Ifechukwu Odoh will represent the nation in the women’s division. Both squads will be under the guidance of national coach, John Iwerima, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the athletes for what promises to be a highly competitive tournament.

Coach Iwerima expressed optimism about his team’s chances, stressing that the players have undergone rigorous training and are determined to make the country proud. “We have prepared well, and I believe this team has what it takes to win the tournament. Nigeria is going to Banjul to compete, and to come back with the trophy,” he said with confidence.

The President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission confirmed that the Nigerian delegation is expected to arrive in Banjul today, September 3, ahead of the official start of the championship. He also highlighted the strategic importance of the competition, noting that it serves as a key preparatory platform for African teams gearing up for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

“The Nigerian team will be arriving in Banjul today. The competition is aimed at preparing African teams towards the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal,” he explained, underscoring the developmental role the championship plays in shaping the future of beach volleyball on the continent.

With Nigeria’s rising profile in youth volleyball and the players’ determination to excel, expectations are high that the young athletes will not only showcase their talent but also contend strongly for honours in Banjul.
