The Rivers State Government, IHS Nigeria In partnership with, the Government of Canada and UNICEF, has announce the handover of a cutting-edge medical oxygen plant to the General Hospital Eleme Rivers.

This initiative follows a comprehensive, nationwide assessment of oxygen needs in health facilities across the 36 states and FCT, conducted jointly with the Federal Ministry of Health.

This significant milestone represents a major advancement in the ongoing efforts of government to improve maternal, newborn, and child health across Nigeria.

UNICEF Representative Cristian Munduate, said the handover of the newly built Oxygen Generation Plant marks a crucial advancement in their mission to supply medical-grade oxygen to healthcare facilities in the country.

According to recent data, Nigeria has one of the highest rates of neo-natal mortality globally and investments in healthcare infrastructure, such as the facility being commissioned are crucial which demonstrates a firm commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives for all ages.

The CEO of IHS Towers Mohamad Darwish, explained that IHS is ready to support UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Health in meeting demands for effective oxygen therapy in Nigeria.

While the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria James Christoff, added that Canada is proud to partner with UNICEF, IHS and the Government of Rivers State on this initiative, to strengthen health systems in Nigeria.
