The Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), has applauded President Bola Tinubu for nominating Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It describes the move as a “thoughtful and strategic decision” to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral credibility.
In a statement, CCLCA Director-General Dr. Gabriel Nwambu says Professor Amupitan combines intellectual depth, moral integrity, and legal expertise, making him well-suited to lead the electoral body.
> “Professor Amupitan’s mastery of the Law of Evidence and Corporate Governance ensures transparency and adherence to the rule of law in our elections,” Nwambu said.
The Centre highlighted that the National Council of State and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo unanimously support the nomination, noting that Professor Amupitan is widely recognized as apolitical and a man of integrity.
CCLCA also commended President Tinubu for promoting national inclusivity, pointing out that Professor Amupitan becomes the first person from the minority area of Kogi State to lead INEC.
Nwambu emphasized the nominee’s extensive administrative experience, including his roles as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos, Dean of Law, and Head of Public Law, showing that he can lead the commission impartially and effectively.
> “We trust that Professor Amupitan will safeguard the sanctity of the ballot, promote transparency, and reinforce public confidence in the electoral process,” the statement read.
The Centre urged the Senate to confirm the nominee swiftly and fairly, describing him as a beacon of competence and credibility.
CCLCA reaffirmed its support for ongoing electoral reforms and commended President Tinubu for nominating a candidate who reflects competence, credibility, and national balance.
