Day 2 of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League delivered a cocktail of emphatic victories, thrilling five-set battles, and standout performances across both the men’s and women’s categories at the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

In the women’s division, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) ladies underlined their title ambitions with a commanding 3-0 sweep over debutants Olalomi Spikers.

The defending champions made light work of the contest, winning 25-16, 25-11, and 25-14 to maintain a perfect start to their campaign.

The COAS Spikers also proved clinical, overcoming Life Camp VC 3-1 in a match that showcased grit and determination. Despite dropping the third set 19-25, the soldiers powered back to seal the tie 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19.

Nigeria Customs Service women left no room for doubt, producing another straight-set victory by outclassing Benue Queens 25-15, 25-21, 25-9. Meanwhile, Nigeria Air Force (NAF) overpowered Wikki Spikers 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-12), displaying superior court craft and composure.

Later in the evening, CNS Spikers women put on a show of strength against Benue Queens, cruising to a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-14, 25-13), while in the last fixture, the Navy ladies swept Sunshine Spikers 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 to close the day in style.

In the men’s category, drama unfolded as Nigeria Correctional Service edged Nigeria Police Force in a pulsating five-set thriller. Correctional took the first set 25-22 but were pegged back 24-26 and 21-25 in the next two sets. With sheer resilience, they roared back 25-18 before holding their nerve in a nail-biting decider, winning 17-15.

NSCDC men, fresh from their stunning Day 1 upset over CNS Spikers, extended their winning streak by sweeping Offa VC 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21). Customs men also showed championship credentials after recovering from a first-set slip to defeat Kano Pillars 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-23).

The COAS Spikers walked over Kada Kings in bizarre fashion with a 3-0 (25-0, 25-0, 25-0) result, while UCEM VC made their presence felt with a 3-1 victory over NAF. The university side prevailed 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22 in a tightly contested match.

To wrap up the men’s fixtures, CNS Spikers bounced back from their Day 1 disappointment with a commanding straight-sets victory over Sunshine Spikers. The defending champions showed their trademark firepower to secure a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-21, 25-18), reminding rivals of their title pedigree.

Speaking after the day’s matches, Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s League Management Committee Chairperson, Nkechi Nzogwu, described the intensity of play as a testament to the growth of the league.

“The level of competition this season is outstanding. We are seeing resilience, skill, and hunger from all the teams, and that is exactly what the CGC Volleyball Premier League is designed to achieve,” she said.

Fans are already looking forward to Day 3, with key clashes expected to further shape the league standings.
