City FC Abuja underlined their fighting spirit with a hard-earned 2-1 comeback victory over JKU SC of Zanzibar in the ongoing Tanzania Preseason International Tournament at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium, Babati in Tanzania.
The Nigerian side, who had earlier opened their campaign with a draw, showcased both character and flair to extend their unbeaten run in Tanzania.
The contest provided drama on and off the pitch. While Ezra Maren and Oscar Otu delivered the decisive goals that overturned an early deficit for The Citizens, the true highlight came from the stands where a 100-year-old Tanzanian grandmother captured the hearts of players and fans alike.
Her unwavering enthusiasm and emotional connection to the game stood out as a living testament to football’s universal spirit.
Recognizing her extraordinary presence, City FC Abuja chairman Hon. Chidi Emmanuel invited the centenarian to the podium, presenting her with a customized replica jersey to a rapturous ovation from the crowd.
Emmanuel described her passion as a source of inspiration, saying it symbolized football’s power to break barriers of age, culture, and background while creating memories that transcend generations
Back on the field, City FC responded with equal passion. After conceding early, they rallied in style with Maren’s equalizer sparking a shift in momentum before Otu’s winner sealed a memorable comeback. The electrified crowd celebrated the team’s resilience and attacking flair, applauding a performance that embodied the occasion’s emotional depth.
With this victory, City FC Abuja remain unbeaten after two games in the tournament and will face TDS in their final group-stage match on Friday. Beyond the scoreline, however, the day in Babati will be remembered as a moment where sport and humanity intertwined — a celebration of football not just as a contest, but as a force for unity, joy, and inspiration.
