The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged to intensify military operations aimed at bolstering security in Katsina State and across Nigeria.
He made this commitment during a courtesy visit to the Acting Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe, at the Government House in Katsina.
According to a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the visit was part of the COAS’s operational tour of the state and also served to commiserate with the government and people of Katsina following recent banditry attacks.
Lieutenant General Oluyede expressed deep concern over the security challenges in the state and assured that the Nigerian Army would implement immediate and improved strategies to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, which have claimed lives and destroyed property.
He appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting and cooperating with security agencies, noting that collective efforts are crucial to defeating criminal elements and ensuring the safety of citizens.
In his remarks, Acting Governor Jobe reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the military and highlighted the government’s substantial investment in the security sector and assured that such support would be sustained in the fight against criminality.
He also commended the Nigerian Army for its swift response to security incidents and its consistent efforts in maintaining peace across the state.
As part of his visit, the COAS received an operational briefing at Natsinta Barracks from the Commander of 17 Brigade, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola. The briefing covered ongoing operations, challenges faced by troops, and strategic plans for enhanced security. Brigadier General Omopariola assured the COAS of the brigade’s continued dedication to its mission.
General Oluyede commended the brigade’s performance and reiterated the Army Headquarters’ commitment to providing logistical support to ensure seamless operations. He urged the troops to remain resilient and continue making sacrifices in the interest of national security.
In his continued three-day tour, the COAS visited several Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), including those at Federal University Dutsinma, Safana, and Malumfashi. At each location, he charged troops to intensify efforts against banditry and criminal activities, assuring them of improved welfare and the provision of necessary operational platforms.
