The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has unveiled its official vehicle, the MG RX8 (2023 model), as part of its efforts to enhance visibility and promote professionalism in Nigeria’s construction industry.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony at the NIQS headquarters in Abuja, the President of the Institute, QS Kene C. Nzekwe, FNIQS, described the MG RX8 as a symbol of progress, innovation, and professionalism. He emphasized that the initiative would bolster the Institute’s competitiveness and representation in high-level engagements.
“The MG RX8 symbolizes progress, innovation, and professionalism. It will enhance our visibility and competitiveness as we represent the Institute in high-level engagements,” Nzekwe remarked.
Nzekwe highlighted the Institute’s dedication to cost optimization and resource management, underlining its crucial role in ensuring the success of construction projects.
“Cost management is central to the construction industry. We’ve developed solutions and provided recommendations extensively. Whether these are implemented is beyond our control, but our responsibility remains to offer sound solutions,” he said.
He also pointed out the impact of recent positive economic indicators, such as the gradual stabilization of the naira and declining fuel prices, noting their potential to reduce construction costs if sustained.
The NIQS plans to use its enhanced visibility to promote the critical role of quantity surveyors in public projects, especially in efficient resource utilization.
“Quantity surveyors are indispensable in achieving successful and efficient projects. We urge the government to consult us for better outcomes,” Nzekwe stressed.
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, QS Shehu Dikko, who chaired the event, praised the NIQS leadership for prioritizing branding and visibility.
“We must proudly showcase our identity as quantity surveyors. Visibility ensures we remain integral to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development,” Dikko stated.
He also proposed introducing a levy to pool resources for branding initiatives, such as providing branded vehicles to members nationwide.
“Promoting our profession requires more than just attending meetings and conferences. We need to brand it, upscale it, and make it highly visible and impactful. This will ensure we remain integral to the socioeconomic development of our country,” he emphasized.
