Nigeria’s Men’s National Cricket Team, the Yellow Greens, showcased resilience and all-round brilliance as they swept aside Botswana in their latest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier clash, recording a comprehensive victory to keep their campaign on a positive note.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Nigeria weathered early setbacks to post a competitive total of 166 for 8 in 20 overs. The innings was anchored by the experienced Sesan Adedeji, who steadied the ship with a composed 41 runs off 43 balls.

The late onslaught came from Vincent Adewoye, who thrilled the crowd with a blistering 42 off just 18 deliveries, smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes. Prosper Useni (21 off 11) and Isaac Okpe (11 off 7) chipped in with crucial late runs, ensuring Nigeria ended with momentum.

In reply, Botswana struggled to find rhythm against Nigeria’s disciplined bowling attack. Captain Sylvester Okpe set the tone with a tidy spell, claiming 2 wickets for 19 runs, but it was Joshua Asia who stole the spotlight.

The young bowler delivered a masterclass in control and accuracy, conceding just 11 runs in his four overs, suffocating the opposition’s scoring rate and rightly earning the Player of the Match award. Peter Aho and Ridwan Abdulkareem also played their part, maintaining pressure with economical spells that restricted Botswana’s chase and sealed a dominant Nigerian win.

The result lifts spirits in the Yellow Greens’ camp as they now turn their attention to the 5th Place Playoff against Uganda on October 4. With confidence high and Joshua Asia in red-hot form, Nigeria will be aiming to close their campaign with another commanding performance.
