The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Adewale Adeniyi, has cautioned men of the Service against lobbying for unmerited promotion.
CGC Adeniyi handed down the warning during the decoration of newly appointed and promoted officers at its headquarters in Abuja.
The decorations followed the confirmation of the appointment of one Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and seven Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs), other 4,291 senior officers and 1,419 junior officers across various ranks by the Service board.
Adeniyi who emphasised that there is no supplementary list for the promotion exercise conducted in 2024 as speculated in some quarters
He however noted that wherever there might have been glitches in the 2024 promotion process, it would be investigated and addressed appropriately.
The Customs boss categorically countered those saying the promotions were influenced by sentiments of ethnicity or religion.
For the decorated Senior Officers, CGC Adeniyi tasked them to adopt discipline and professional ethics in the discharge of their duties.
He said they must be role models to their subordinates and provide guidance to enable the service to achieve its mandate of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation.
“You have been called to higher level to serve, we will be expecting you to be strategic, because you will be involved in high level decision making and implementation of policies.
“This requires discipline, dedication and professionalism, and you must abide by the ethics of the job,” he said.
Adeniyi further said the service would provide younger officers with the opportunity to learn from their superiors and apply their knowledge in the operations of the service to bridge the knowledge or generational gap.
