The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has earned yet another national spotlight for communication excellence as its National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, has been named among Nigeria’s Top 50 PR and Communications Professionals in the 2025 PR Power List.

The recognition, released on Wednesday, by GLG Communications in collaboration with The Guardian Newspaper, celebrates individuals driving innovation and impact in public relations across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Maiwada was listed in the Changemakers Category, which honours professionals who challenge convention and introduce transformative communication practices with measurable results.

Describing the recognition as a humbling milestone, in a statement issued on Friday, Maiwada says it reflects the strategic progress the Nigeria Customs Service has made in public engagement and institutional communication.

“This recognition is deeply humbling. It speaks to the commitment of the Service to modernise public engagement, enhance transparency, and build trust through effective storytelling and timely dissemination of accurate information,” he said.
“While I am honoured to be listed, I believe the greater credit goes to the team I work with and the visionary leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose reforms have empowered us to think differently, act boldly, and represent the Service with dignity and professionalism.”

The 2025 edition of the PR Power List categorizes honourees into four distinct segments: Rising Voices, Community Impact, Changemakers, and Fourth Estate — each representing key drivers of influence, ethics, and innovation in communication.

In its official citation, the organisers commended Maiwada for “shaping the future of public relations through bold moves, long-term experience, and impact-driven communication.”

Signed by GLG’s Managing Partner, Oreani Ogbe, the Power List aims to spotlight professionals whose work goes beyond routine messaging to reshape narratives and deliver real value to institutions and the public.

Maiwada’s inclusion reflects a broader transformation within the Nigeria Customs Service, which under the leadership of CGC Adeniyi, has prioritized transparency, proactive media engagement, and stakeholder trust.

The honour cements Maiwada’s place among Nigeria’s most influential voices in public sector communication and reinforces the Customs Service’s growing reputation for professionalism and public accountability.
