Practitioners of the Fourth Estate of the Realm have been tasked on the need for ethics in their reportages of the society for National development.
This is according to the Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, who caution journalists against the flagrant disrespect for the standard and procedure of Journalism.
Professor Sulaiman gave the advice on Sunday, when the leaderships of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Kwara State Council and its counterpart, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, ( NAWOJ), paid a courtesy call on him at his residence in Ilorin.
He said as the Fourth Estate of the realm, the onus is on Journalists to shun yellow journalism, engage in balance and verify reportages on matters concerning leadership recruitment processes, politicking and societal challenges.
According to a statement on Monday by the Media Adviser to D.G NILDS, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Abubakar calls on Media Practitioners to imbibe the fear of God and exhibit patriotic dispositions in carrying out their duties.
He further urged journalists to always publish genuine narratives to drive the realisations of national interests devoid of monetary inducements towards fixing the socio- economic challenges bedeviling the country.
Earlier the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Kwara State Council, Abdullateef Lanre Ahmed solicit the support of the D.G NILDS in the area of training for members.
Ahmed however assured Professor Sulaiman of checkmating unethical menace of fake news.
