Day 5 of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League (first phase) lived up to expectations in Abuja, treating fans to spectacular rallies, dramatic comebacks, and commanding victories across both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s division, Sunshine Spikers staged the comeback of the day against UCEM. After dropping the first two sets 23–25 and 16–25, Sunshine fought back brilliantly to take the last three 25–20, 25–23, and 25–12, sealing a memorable 3–2 victory.
Offa Volleyball Club also claimed a 3–1 win over Nigeria Police Force (NPF), edging the opening set 25–23, conceding the second 23–25, but holding firm in the next two, 28–26 and 25–18.
CDC and Kada Kings produced one of the day’s most thrilling encounters, going the full distance in a five-set battle. CDC clinched the tie 3–2 after winning the decider 16–14, with earlier sets ending 25–20, 22–25, 20–25, and 25–23.
COAS Spikers recovered from losing the first set 21–25 to Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) before powering through 25–18, 25–23, and 25–23 to secure a 3–1 win. CNS were dominant in their clash with Kano Pillars, sweeping aside their opponents 3–0 (25–20, 28–26, 25–17). Nigeria Customs rounded off the men’s fixtures with a hard-earned 3–1 victory over Nigeria Air Force (NAF), taking the first, third, and fourth sets 25–16, 25–14, and 25–20, while NAF claimed the second 25–21.
The women’s games provided equally captivating moments. Olalomi Queens defeated Wikki Spikers 3–0 in straight sets (25–23, 25–19, 25–20), while CDC Queens overpowered Life Value Club (LVC) 3–0 with scores of 25–18, 25–10, and 25–16. COAS Amazons secured a 3–1 win over NAF in a closely fought contest, winning 25–22, 25–21, 20–25, and 26–24.
Customs Ladies were the standout performers, winning twice in dominant fashion. They first swept aside Anambra Queens 3–0 (25–12, 25–10, 25–12), before returning in the evening to defeat NAF 3–1 (25–16, 21–25, 25–14, 25–20). Elsewhere, Kada Queens edged Benue Queens 3–2 in another pulsating contest, with scores of 18–25, 25–15, 25–21, 26–28, and 15–8.
With high-intensity matches, five-set thrillers, and emphatic sweeps, Day 5 once again showcased the growing quality and fierce competition in Nigeria’s premier volleyball league. The race for early momentum and top-phase dominance remains wide open as the championship progresses in the nation’s capital.
