The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has called for renewed love and unity among the people of Ilorin, describing them as values that once made the community a model for others.

According to a statement issued by NILDS Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman made the call on Sunday during a visit to the newly established Secretariat of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in Utako, Abuja.

Reflecting on what he described as the “glorious past,” the former Minister of National Planning recalled a time when Ilorin residents were bound by genuine brotherhood, collective aspirations, and a strong sense of community, regardless of political differences. He urged the IEDPU to lead efforts to restore those cherished values.

He commended the IEDPU FCT leadership for its achievements, including the construction of a befitting secretariat within the premises of the Ansar-Islam Society of Nigeria mosque. Professor Sulaiman, however, warned against emerging divisions within the union, noting that such trends could undermine its purpose.

Earlier, the Chairman of the IEDPU FCT chapter, Alhaji Lukman Atanda Abdullah, conducted the DG round the office facilities, including the yet-to-be-furnished conference hall. He expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to completing ongoing legacy projects.
