The Ebonyi State Government says it has completed more than 627 kilometres of roads across the state as part of efforts to improve connectivity between urban centres and rural communities.
The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists after an independent facility tour by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council.
Mbam said the road projects are part of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration’s implementation of its People’s Charter of Needs.
He said the government had deliberately expanded infrastructure development beyond the state capital, Abakaliki, to rural communities to support economic activities and improve access.
According to the commissioner, more than 627 kilometres of roads have been completed, while several other road and bridge projects remain under construction across the state.
Mbam also gave an update on the Vanco Flyover and Underground Tunnel, describing it as a major infrastructure project involving a double-deck flyover, underground tunnel, access roads and a bypass.
He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the projected timeline, adding that it was being executed by indigenous engineers.
Mbam urged journalists to report government projects based on direct observation and verifiable facts, saying objective scrutiny would promote accountability.
