The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a credible Ekiti 2026 governorship election, announcing the schedule for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and cautioning political parties against illegal practices, including underage registration.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Bunmi Omoseyindemi, disclosed that the online CVR portal will open on August 18, 2025, while the physical registration phase will commence on August 25, 2025, across designated centres.
Omoseyindemi stressed that INEC will collaborate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent exercise, warning political actors against mobilising underage or ineligible persons. He noted that anyone caught aiding electoral malpractice would face arrest and prosecution.
“Only eligible citizens, particularly those turning 18, should register. They must present birth certificates or valid documents for age verification. Anyone caught with fake documents will be arrested,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed readiness for the CVR exercise. Party Chairman, Sola Elesin, commended INEC’s proactive measures, noting that the party has activated internal structures to mobilise eligible voters ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
