A political consensus is emerging in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 governorship election as a coalition is growing for the sole reason of re-electing Governor Peter Mbah.

In this vein, political heavyweights, professionals, traditional rulers, and grassroots organizations in Enugu East Senatorial District have unanimously adopted Mbah as their sole candidate.

The declaration was made on Sunday at a high-powered town hall meeting held in Enugu, where stakeholders across political divides pledged unwavering support for Mbah’s re-election — regardless of the political party platform he chooses.

In a communique titled “One Good Turn Deserves Another”, the people of Enugu East said their decision was based on Mbah’s “trailblazing performance” in just two years in office.

“In endorsing him, we want to state that we are blind to party affiliation. In the face of Nigeria’s fluid party politics, our political party is Peter Mbah, a performing Governor, who has shown that he not only has what it takes to turn Enugu State around, but also to take it to the pinnacle of glory where our founding fathers dreamt of,” the communique read.

In a dramatic twist, Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who was Mbah’s fiercest rival, moved the motion for his adoption.

“I was once like Saul who fought the disciples. But now, like Paul, my eyes are open. I will devote everything within me to ensure Mbah returns for a second term.”

His motion was seconded by former APC state chairman, Ben Nwoye, who stressed that the adoption was not about political parties but about Mbah’s transformational leadership.

Former Deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, warned other politicians not to throw away their resources contesting against Mbah in 2027.
“Unless you just want the title of ‘former governorship candidate,’ running against Peter Mbah is a waste of time and money,” he declared.

Meanwhile, the communique highlighted some of Mbah’s key achievements, including:

Security: Radical improvement through massive investment.

Education & Healthcare: 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 modern healthcare centres under construction across all wards.

Transport & Aviation: Launch of Enugu Air, five new transport terminals, 100 CNG buses, and progress on the Akanu Ibiam International Airport terminals.

Infrastructure: Over 1,000km of roads completed or ongoing, completion of the International Conference Centre, construction of a 5-star ICC hotel, and the Enugu International Hospital.

Agriculture: Landmark interventions to revive food production and boost agribusiness.

The leaders also called on Enugu North and West senatorial zones to reciprocate the political goodwill of Enugu East, recalling how the district supported their turns in previous election cycles.
