Former Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for his exceptional performance and contributions to national development.

Orji, who represented Abia Central Senatorial District in the 8th and 9th National Assemblies, made the remarks when Kalu paid him a New Year courtesy visit at his residence in Umuahia.

He praised the Deputy Speaker’s legislative efforts and stressed that the development of Abia State remains a collective responsibility of all Abians, urging unity and cooperation for the progress of the state.

A statement on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughigu, said the former governor also offered prayers and goodwill to Kalu, wishing him long life and continued success.

“God will bless you for this visit. It shall be well with you. Abia is our state, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our state works above other states.

Alphabetically, we are number one. You are doing well at the National Assembly. I wish you long life and prosperity in Jesus’ name,” Orji said.

Earlier in his remarks, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, congratulated Orji on his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as significant for the development of Abia State and the country at large.

“We believe in building the community and the states that build the nation. The nation does not stand on its own; it rests on the structure of the states, local governments and communities,” Kalu said.

He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had encouraged leaders to engage elder statesmen to promote unity, peace and national cohesion.

“Mr. President was very happy when he heard that you joined the APC. We are going to leverage your wealth of experience, wide contacts and loyal support base. We will work together and always come to you for advice and guidance,” the Deputy Speaker added.

During the visit, Kalu presented a brochure highlighting his legislative legacies at the National Assembly to the former governor.
