FCT Minister Highlights Development Plans for Gwagwalada

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has outlined significant developmental projects earmarked for Gwagwalada Area Council, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to the growth of satellite towns.

Wike who stated this during the commissioning of Paikom-Kore Ibwa 9 kilometres road, on Wednesday in Abuja, detailed ongoing and planned initiatives, including critical infrastructure, education, and security enhancements.

The minister revealed that the federal government has invested heavily in the development of satellite towns, with over N300 billion spent so far.

A significant chunk of this amount, exceeding N50 billion, has been allocated to Gwagwalada Area Council alone .

According to the him, two major roads in Gwagwalada, including the Paikom-Kore Road, have been prioritized for construction.

In Gwagwalada, several key projects have been undertaken, including the rehabilitation of Paikon Kore – Ibwa Road, which cost N8.5 billion.

In addition, N22 billion has been earmarked for the construction of Aguma Palace , Market and  Radio Nigeria Road, which would be commissioned during the celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s secon anniversary in May 2025.

He added that the  FCT Administration has also invested N16.5 billion in upgrading and rehabilitating five secondary schools in Gwagwalada ensuring improved educational facilities for students.

He identified the schools as the School for the Gifted, Government Secondary School (GSS) Gwagwalada, GSS Anagada, Government Science Secondary School, Tungan Maji, and GSS Giri.

Wike emphasized that these investments demonstrate the government’s commitment to developing satellite towns and improving the lives of residents.

He said  Gwagwalada receiving the least amount among the six area councils, the total investment in these areas exceeds N300 billion, a significant achievement in just one year .

The minister also assured residents of plans to construct a vital bridge to ease transportation challenges in the area.

Meanwhile, reflecting on the efforts of the current administration compared to previous ones, Wike emphasized the unprecedented level of commitment to Gwagwalada.

“Within just one year, Mr. President has committed significant resources to the development of this area,” he stated”.

Additionally, three police divisional headquarters are being constructed to bolster security in Gwagwalada.

The minister further expressed gratitude to members of the National Assembly for their unwavering support in advancing development across the FCT.

“This administration remains focused on the comprehensive development of satellite towns, ensuring that every community benefits from progress,” he added.

Residents of Gwagwalada have lauded the government’s commitment, expressing optimism about the positive impact these projects will have on their lives.
