The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has advised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council to postpone its planned peaceful protest scheduled for Tuesday, 3 February 2026.

In a statement on Monday, the Police said it fully recognizes the constitutional rights of citizens to protest and remains committed to providing adequate security for all lawful gatherings.

However, it noted that intelligence reports have uncovered plans by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria and other non-state actors to infiltrate and possibly hijack the demonstration.

The Command warned that such infiltration could lead to actions capable of undermining public peace and safety. It said the advisory to shift the date was issued in the overriding interest of residents and to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, rescheduling the protest would also ensure that the rights of other citizens to safety, movement, and uninterrupted daily activities are not compromised.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the FCT and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in efforts to maintain peace and security.
