The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Security Committee has reassured residents of Abuja of enhanced security measures to guarantee a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.
Speaking after the committee’s meeting on Friday to review progress and operational strategies, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, provided details of the robust security framework in place.
Disu emphasized the collaboration among multiple security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The Commissioner revealed that critical areas of concern have been identified, such as entry and exit points to the FCT, bushy areas, and other vulnerable locations.
In response, the committee has approved clearance operations to eliminate threats in these zones.
“We are intensifying activities at all borders and neighboring states during this Yuletide period,” Disu stated.
“The military, police, and other security agencies will carry out clearance operations in identified areas.
When you see troop movements, do not panic—these are security operatives ensuring a safe and enjoyable festive season.”
The security agencies will also conduct joint patrols in flashpoint areas and deploy personnel to strategic locations to prevent criminal activities.
Disu commended the cooperation of residents in supporting security efforts, which, he noted, have significantly curbed crime in the FCT.
He called for continued collaboration, urging residents to report any suspicious activity.
“Our contact numbers have been made available to the public. If you observe anything unusual, report it immediately.
Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration,” he said.
The FCT Security Committee remains committed to maintaining peace and security, fostering an environment for residents to celebrate the festive season without fear.
