The Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee (FCT EXCO) has approved the procurement of 12 brand-new, fully customized ambulances valued at ₦1.7 billion, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response services across the FCT.

The Committee also ratified the procurement of fertilizers for local farmers, reinforcing the Administration’s commitment to food security.

Speaking after the EXCO meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Friday at his Life Camp residence in Abuja, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Health, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, announced that the new ambulances, the first in nine years — have already been delivered and will soon be commissioned.

Dr. Fasawe emphasized that the vehicles are of international standard, designed for high efficiency and reliability. She added that newly constructed roads across the FCT will further boost emergency response speed and coverage.

“We are working closely with FEMA to handle emergency medical requests. The 112 emergency toll line is active and available for all residents,”

She also clarified that ambulances will no longer be used to transport corpses, noting that dedicated hearses are being procured for that purpose.

The Mandate Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ango Abdullahi Suleiman, disclosed that EXCO ratified the procurement of MPK fertilizer to support farmers across the FCT.

“This initiative is aimed at putting smiles on the faces of farmers and ensuring food security within the territory,” he said, expressing optimism for improved yields this farming season.

The Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Richard Dauda, announced the approval and near completion of new alternative access roads and resurfacing works around the Old Federal Secretariat in Durumi.

The project was awarded on an emergency basis to restore accessibility to the area.

According to Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary for the Education Secretariat, the Council approved ₦384.8 million for the procurement of WAEC, NECO, and practical materials for 88 senior secondary schools across the FCT.

He stated that the investment aims to enhance teaching quality and ensure better academic performance.

Honourable Lawan Geidam, Mandate Secretary for Youth Development, revealed that EXCO approved the complete renovation of the Nyanya Youth Centre.

Once completed, the centre will offer training in metal fabrication, tailoring, sculpting, and ICT, equipping young people with skills for self-employment and economic independence.

Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, confirmed that approval has been granted for the procurement of water treatment chemicals and automatic gas oils to maintain smooth operations at the Lower Usuma Dam, ensuring steady and safe water supply to residents.
