The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N3.6 billion for the construction of three additional police divisional headquarters and staff quarters in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Kwali Area Councils.
Director of the Security Services Department, Mr. Adamu Gwary, made this known during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday following the first FCT Executive Committee meeting of 2025.
According to Gwary, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He emphasized that the move aligns with the administration’s commitment to enhancing security, particularly in satellite towns and rural communities.
The development follows the directive of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who, in September 2024, stressed the need for improved security presence in all six area councils.
The minister had mandated the construction of two police divisional headquarters in each council to ensure law enforcement agencies are better equipped to serve residents.
So far, nine of these headquarters have been approved and are nearing completion. With the latest approval, all six area councils will now have the planned two divisional headquarters each.
“This initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring effective security across the FCT,” Gwary stated.
“It also fulfills the FCT Minister’s commitment to making security a priority, especially in underserved areas.”
He further highlighted that crime rates in the FCT have been declining due to the administration’s proactive measures.
He urged security agencies to maximize the available resources to sustain and improve on this progress.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the Minister, Mr. Chidi Amadi, provided insights into the broader discussions at the FCT Executive Committee meeting.
He revealed that 12 memos were presented, with some stepped down, others withdrawn, and some updated for reconsideration. However, six key proposals, mainly focused on critical infrastructure development, received approval.
This latest investment in security infrastructure underscores the FCTA’s resolve to create a safer environment for residents, reinforcing law enforcement capabilities and fostering public safety across the territory.
