Police Commissioner Launches Weapon and Riot Control Training for FCT Officers Democracy Radio

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) began an industrial action on Monday, bringing government operations across Abuja to a halt.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force were stationed at the FCTA Secretariat gate, preventing staff from entering the premises. A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “Staff of FCDA, FCTA are not allowed into the office premises because of the strike.”
The strike is set to affect all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils, and parastatals, effectively grounding official activities across the Federal Capital Territory.

The industrial action follows a directive by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) last Friday, calling on workers in all cadres to withdraw their services. The unions accused the government of failing to resolve long-standing labour and welfare demands, noting that a seven-day ultimatum issued on January 7, 2026, was ignored despite multiple meetings.
JUAC highlighted unresolved grievances including unpaid promotion arrears, stalled promotions, the continued extension of service for retired senior officials, and the non-remittance of pension contributions and National Housing Fund deductions. The unions also criticised the 2024 promotion examinations, describing the exercise as a failure that affected most candidates.
