The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of Prophet Muhammad, with an appeal for prayers, peace, and unity across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government congratulated Muslims at home and abroad on the occasion and called for deeper reflection on the Prophet’s virtues of humility, tolerance, and compassion.

Beyond the celebration, the government urged Nigerians of all faiths to seize the opportunity to pray for peace, security, and stability, while supporting policies designed to strengthen national cohesion and drive sustainable development.

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid. The occasion offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and embrace the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the statement read.

The Federal Government also appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and united in the collective effort to advance peace and prosperity across the nation.
