Finance Minister rep. directs speedy implementation of the BisonFly Project to save up to N24bn yearly in official air travel costs.

The Federal Government has directed the speedy implementation of the BisonFly Project, a cost-cutting initiative projected to save between N18bn and N24bn annually in official air travel expenses across the Federal Civil Service.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with stakeholders on the project.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Raymond Omenka Omachi, the Minister underscored the urgency of timely execution, stressing the importance of measurable results and full realization of the project’s objectives.

According to a statement issued by the Director Press of the ministry, Mohammed Manga, the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, Fiscal Policy, and Tax Reforms of the present administration, promoting transparency, accountability, and cost optimization.

The BisonFly Project, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Finance, is designed to reduce the cost of air travel across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) through a centralized, technology-enabled booking system.

By leveraging government’s collective bargaining power to secure discounted fares, the system will ensure efficiency, transparency, and prudent financial management—similar to models successfully deployed by global institutions such as the World Bank.

Edun noted that the project directly supports government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, adding that its successful rollout would not only entrench prudent financial practices but also enhance productivity in the public sector.

Officials said the long-term benefits will extend to economic growth, job creation, and improved service delivery, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of Nigerians.
