The Federal Government has allocated ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to tackle infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.

The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the funds were disbursed under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund.

The allocation covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with the funds earmarked for approved projects aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs.

Universities received the largest share of ₦28.5 billion, while polytechnics were allocated ₦5.8 billion. Colleges of education will receive ₦4.7 billion.

According to the ministry, the intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to revitalise public tertiary institutions and implement agreed measures under its Memorandum of Understanding with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

It added that the funding is expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects addressing infrastructure gaps and other identified institutional needs.

The ministry also emphasised the need for effective coordination among the Federal Ministries of Finance and Education, as well as the beneficiary institutions, to ensure the funds deliver tangible improvements in educational infrastructure and institutional capacity.
