The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has certified eTranzact Firm as a provider for its nationwide e-invoicing rollout.
FIRS emphasized that the move is expanding on earlier collaborations to automate tax processes.
In a statement on Thursday, FIRS Head of Corporate Communications, Adeyemi Opene, says the move will strengthen the agency’s push to digitize tax and business transactions under its Tax Administration 3.0 reforms.
The new system, known as the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), will introduce structured digital invoices for business-to-business, business-to-consumer and business-to-government transactions.
Officials say the platform is designed to simplify tax procedures, enhance compliance and improve transparency.
Mike Adoga, Acting Director of Tax Automation at FIRS, said providers were certified only after meeting strict criteria, including nationwide service coverage, proven security and scalability.
He explained that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), contributed technical expertise to ensure the system’s robustness.
Tayo Koleoso, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, said NITDA’s involvement was key to “strengthening data protection and cybersecurity, thereby boosting taxpayer confidence.”
Reacting to the certification, eTranzact’s Managing Director and CEO, Niyi Toluwalope, said it reflected the company’s long-term vision for digital governance.
“This recognition by FIRS affirms our vision to be the preferred integrated financial technology platform for merchants and consumers,” Toluwalope said.
“For us, e-invoicing is more than compliance — it is an opportunity to transform the way businesses interact with government, creating transparency, efficiency and value for every stakeholder.”
The approval builds on eTranzact’s partnership with FIRS dating back to 2017, when it worked with the agency and Nigerian banks to deploy an API system for secure VAT and withholding tax reporting. That infrastructure, officials say, laid the foundation for nationwide digital invoicing.
Licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria as both a switching and mobile money operator, eTranzact has provided secure payment solutions across industries since 2003.
FIRS says the nationwide rollout of e-invoicing will align Nigeria’s tax administration with international best practices while retaining local relevance.
