Fuel Price Hike: NNPCL Raises Petrol Price to N992

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again adjusted the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from ₦865 to ₦992 per litre, triggering fresh public concern over the lack of transparency in fuel pricing and government communication.

As of Monday, no official reason had been provided by NNPCL or any government agency regarding the increase, which comes amid ongoing economic hardship and rising inflation.

During visits to various NNPC retail outlets in Lagos and Ogun States, attendants were seen recalibrating their pumps to reflect the new rate.
At the NNPC station on Ogunusi Road, Ojodu Berger, an attendant confirmed that the directive to adjust the price came directly from management.

“We were instructed to change the price to ₦992 this morning,” one of the attendants told The Nation, requesting anonymity.

However, a visit to the NNPC station at Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, revealed a different picture. The outlet still displayed the old price of ₦875 per litre but was not dispensing fuel to commuters. Similar reports from other parts of Lagos indicated that several NNPC stations were either closed or dry.

The situation has left motorists stranded and commuters frustrated, with many questioning why NNPCL — the country’s sole importer of petrol — has not issued an official statement explaining the sudden change.
