Gombe State House of Assembly Clark barrister Rukaiyatu Jalo, has been re-elected as Chairperson of the Forum of Clerks of State Legislatures of Nigeria.
her re-election brought renewed attention to the role of legislative administrators in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
The election which took place on September 12, 2025, in Abuja, during the forum’s national meeting was attended by clerks from 36 states of the federation.
According to a statement issued by the Assembly’s Information Officer, Japhet Idi Sogi, Jalo’s return as chairperson is “a clear recognition of her proven leadership and commitment to legislative development.
“It also shows her dedication to the growth of parliamentary institutions in Nigeria.”
The statement says the forum is expected to benefit from her renewed mandate, which will “strengthen the adoption of best practices across state assemblies and enhance their collective role in governance.”
Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Luggerewo, lauded the development as “a source of pride to the people of Gombe State,” describing Jalo’s performance as “sterling at the state and national levels.”
“We are confident that she will continue to provide visionary leadership that will advance the objectives of the forum and consolidate democratic governance in Nigeria.”
The Speaker also praised Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for maintaining a cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms, stressing that such synergy has created an enabling environment for Gombe to be recognised nationally.
The Gombe State House of Assembly pledged continued support for Jalo as she embarks on another tenure of service to Nigeria’s legislatures.
