Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has reiterated his commitment to grassroots football development following a strategic meeting with former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe, an indigene of the state.
The discussion centered on strengthening youth football structures, creating sustainable development pathways, and positioning Anambra as a major talent hub in Nigeria.
Speaking after the meeting, Iloenyosi described the engagement as a major step toward building a lasting football legacy in the state, noting that Anichebe’s top-level experience would inspire young players.
“Victor Anichebe is one of our own who has competed at the highest level. His experience will greatly motivate our young talents,” he said.
He added that the Anambra FA is focused on structured grassroots programmes, organized youth competitions, and strong mentorship systems to help players grow and compete nationally and internationally.
Anichebe enjoyed a successful professional career in England, featuring for Everton F.C., West Bromwich Albion F.C., and Sunderland A.F.C.. He also represented Nigeria at senior level and won silver with the national team at the 2008 Olympic Games.
