The House of Representatives says the aim of its Special Ad-Hoc Committee on Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions is to enhance efficiency of government agencies while meeting current day realities.
Chairman of the Special Ad-Hoc Committee, Ibrahim Isiaka, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said the committee has commenced the process of reviewing the recommendations of the Steve Oronsanye Report and other white papers. The lawmaker and members of his committee who spoke in a press conference in Abuja, reassured Nigerians that civil servants will not lose their jobs due to the process which seeks to reduce the cost of governance through merging, scrapping and relocation of some departments and agencies of government.
On concerns by Nigerians that the parliament is still passing bills for the creation of more agencies despite the Oronsanye Report, Representative Isiaka said some agencies have outlived their functions hence the need for the parliament to review their existence.
Representative Isiaka invited all the critical stakeholders to a one-day Public Hearing on the same subject matter scheduled for the 10th of July 2024.
