A House of Representatives has faulted the park and pay arrangement of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The House committee of FCT which stated this during an interactive session with the mandate secretary in charge of the transportation secretariat, Chinedum Elechi, said residents and motorists in the nation’s capital are being harassed by those employed to enforce the policy.
Chairman of the committee, Muktar Betara, demanded details on how the reintroduced park and pay arrangement was established, who authorized it, and how remittances are made to the coffers of the FCDA.
Responding, Elechi said the policy is regulated and supported by a legal framework and that only designated areas serve as parking zones added that it is part of the ways of controlling traffic in the territory.
Meanwhile, on the queried about the contract process, the director of legal services of the transport secretariat, Hussaina Olayemi, explained that the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) the Abuja Investment Company (AIC), and the FCT are responsible for public-private partnerships.
The committee also questioned the FCDA officials over abandoned motor parks in the nation’s capital.
