The House of Representatives has dismissed reports suggesting cracks within its ranks, declaring that the 10th Assembly remains united under the leadership of Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
In a statement on Sunday in reaction to a Leadership Newspaper publication of August 30, the House described the report as misleading, warning against elevating casual remarks and informal exchanges among members as if they were official positions of any caucus or the chamber.
House Spokesman, Representative Akin Rotimi Jr., said internal diversity has not undermined unity in the Assembly.
“The House remains united under the leadership of Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. With 360 members from every part of Nigeria, the House reflects the nation’s full diversity. Informal conversations are normal in a democracy but cannot represent official positions,” he said.
Rotimi noted that the 10th Assembly has consistently reached consensus on national issues, despite members’ diverse political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
He added that lawmakers are focused on resumption on September 23 with renewed commitment to national priorities.
He also dismissed claims that development was being concentrated in certain regions, describing such insinuations as “false, divisive, and unhelpful.”
“The House operates on principles of equity, justice, and fairness. Internal disagreements are addressed through established parliamentary mechanisms, not speculative newspaper reports,” Rotimi stated.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to lawmaking, oversight, and representation in line with principles of transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness.
