IGP approves new area commands, upgrades divisions to boost security in Benue.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the creation of two new Area Commands and the upgrade of five Police Stations to Divisional Headquarters in Benue State, as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthen policing in difficult terrains.

The new Area Commands include Daudu, which will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Divisions; and Naka, which will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Divisions. In addition, Police Stations in Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan have now been upgraded to full-fledged Divisions.

According to a statement on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP, says this restructuring follows a comprehensive review of the security challenges in troubled local government areas of the state, where stronger police presence and swift operational response are urgently required.

He emphasizes that the strategic move is designed to close operational gaps, enhance visibility, and bring policing services closer to the grassroots.

IGP Egbetokun charges the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, and officers posted to the new structures to demonstrate professionalism and renewed commitment in ensuring robust security for residents.

He further calls on the government and citizens of Benue to continue their collaboration with the Police, noting that partnership remains crucial to sustaining peace and stability.

The Police Chief also directs Commissioners of Police in other states grappling with security challenges in difficult terrains to evolve practical, community-driven strategies tailored to their jurisdictions, assuring them of full support and resources from Force Headquarters.
