Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has held a strategic meeting with football patron Jim Martin Nwabueze Akubudike as preparations intensify for the second edition of the Anambra State Akubudike Football Tournament.

The meeting focused on expanding the scope, structure, and overall impact of the tournament, which gained wide attention during its maiden edition.

Speaking after the engagement, Iloenyosi said the upcoming edition would significantly improve on the first.

“The first edition laid a strong foundation. I can confidently say the second edition will be bigger, better, and more impactful,” he said.

He stressed that the tournament goes beyond competition, describing it as a platform for talent discovery, community unity, and career pathways for young footballers.

“Our aim is to build a sustainable grassroots football culture in Anambra and give young talents the opportunity to grow and be seen,” Iloenyosi added.

Akubudike reaffirmed his commitment to youth and sports development, noting that football remains a powerful tool for community engagement.

“This tournament is about investing in our future. We are determined to raise the standard and make this year’s edition memorable,” he said.

Organisers disclosed that the second edition will feature improved logistics, better officiating, wider team participation, and increased community involvement. Plans are also underway to attract scouts and key stakeholders within Nigerian football.

The Akubudike Football Tournament has quickly emerged as a notable grassroots competition in Anambra State, and stakeholders believe the forthcoming edition could set a new benchmark for community-based football tournaments in the state.
