Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chikelue Iloenyosi, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to grassroots and youth football development, emphasizing that he remains focused on progress and “has no time for detractors.”
Speaking at a press briefing held at the ANSFA Secretariat in Awka on Tuesday, the former Super Eagles defender outlined a clear vision for repositioning football in Anambra State as a tool for youth empowerment and social transformation.
According to Iloenyosi, his leadership is intent on restoring Anambra’s historic status as one of Nigeria’s most productive football hubs — a state that once produced multiple Super Eagles and youth international players.
“We are focused on changing the narrative for sports development in this state through football,” Iloenyosi said. “Our programmes are designed to meaningfully engage young people, harness their potential, and return Anambra to the glory days when we had four or five players in the Super Eagles and other national teams.”
The FA Chairman noted that his administration’s initiatives are youth-centric, community-driven, and strategically aligned with the state’s broader agenda for human capital development.
Addressing recent criticisms from some quarters, Iloenyosi dismissed the comments attributed to Iyke Igbokwe, describing him as a habitual “rabble-rouser” with a record of unconstructive attacks against major sports bodies, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
“Our focus is football growth, not distractions,” he said firmly. “We have a noble brand and a clear mission — to use football as a vehicle for positive change and to impact the lives of our teeming youths.”
Iloenyosi further expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his administration’s consistent support of sports initiatives and youth development. He assured that the FA would continue to complement the government’s vision through sustainable football programmes that promote discipline, skill acquisition, and community development.
“Governor Soludo has shown genuine interest in sports and youth development,” Iloenyosi stated. “We will continue to partner with his government to ensure that football contributes meaningfully to societal growth. The ANSFA will keep rolling out initiatives that add real value to our people.”
Under Iloenyosi’s tenure, the Anambra FA has launched several grassroots initiatives, including school competitions, talent discovery programmes, and partnerships with local clubs aimed at reviving youth football structures across the state.
With renewed confidence and a strategic focus on development, Iloenyosi reaffirmed that his leadership remains undeterred by distractions and resolutely committed to building a sustainable football culture that empowers young Anambrarians and nurtures the next generation of national stars.
