Jeremiah and Sani-Inabo Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals at VEMP Championship

Benjamin Jeremiah and Yahaya Sani-Inabo have booked their place in the men’s doubles quarterfinals at the ongoing VEMP National Open Tennis Championship in Abuja.

Competing at Court 4 of the National Tennis Centre, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, the pair overcame John David and Godgift Timibra with a hard-earned 6-4, 7-6(5) victory in the round of 16.

The match saw both teams neck-and-neck at 2-2 in the opening set before Jeremiah and Sani-Inabo broke serve and closed it out 6-4. The second set proved more intense, going the distance to a tiebreak, where the duo held firm to win 7-6(5).

Their next challenge will be against the formidable team of Daniel Adeleye and Abubakar Yusuf, who breezed past Endurance Ehiegiamusoe and Saidu Sani-Inabo with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win.

Speaking after the match, Jeremiah expressed his satisfaction: “The game went well, and we’re really happy with the result. This is my first appearance in this particular doubles event, though I’ve played in senior competitions before. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go far in singles, as I lost in the qualifiers.”

Sani-Inabo also shared his thoughts: “It was a tough match, and I thank God for the win. We stayed focused and got the job done. I’m taking it one match at a time and looking forward to my next singles match against Endurance Ehiegiamusoe. Hopefully, I can keep the momentum going.”
