Kado Heart Foundation emerged champions of the 4th Abdulrahman Taiwo Football Tournament after defeating Jahi FC 5–3 on penalties following a thrilling final at the Kado Football Pitch.
The final ended 1–1 in regulation time, with Kado Heart Foundation taking a first-half lead before Jahi FC scored a late equaliser to force a shootout. Kado Heart Foundation held their nerve from the spot to seal the title in front of a large home crowd.
Earlier, Aso FC of Maraba secured third place with a 1–0 win over Zaki FC of Kado.
The grassroots tournament, organised in honour of international footballer Abdulrahman Taiwo, once again showcased football’s role in community development and talent discovery.
A notable highlight was the presence of the sponsor’s mother, Alhaja Wosilat Audu Abdulrahman.
Secretary-General of the FCT Football Association, Haruna Ilerika, praised the tournament’s impact and turnout, describing it as a strong example of football’s grassroots strength and its ability to unite communities.
He noted that football development continues to thrive in local communities across the FCT, driven by population growth and passion for the game.
Despite the defeat, Jahi FC captain Jatau Sariki Noma commended the overall quality of the competition, saying the team would regroup and return stronger.
Kado Heart Foundation captain Kabiru Audu described the victory as redemption after previous setbacks, noting that winning on home ground made the triumph special.
He also highlighted the tournament’s importance in inspiring young players within the Kado community.
The final attracted traditional rulers, football officials, community leaders and stakeholders, who applauded the organisers for sustaining a competition that continues to grow in relevance.
The successful conclusion of this year’s edition further cements the Abdulrahman Taiwo Football Tournament as a key platform for grassroots football development in the Federal Capital Territory.
