The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has opted not to call any witnesses in his ongoing terrorism trial, insisting that the charges brought against him by the Federal Government lack legal merit.
At the resumed hearing on Monday before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu told the court that after reviewing the case file, he concluded that there was “no valid charge” against him.
“I have gone through the case file and realised there is no valid charge against me. Since I am convinced I have been subjected to an unlawful trial, there is no need for me to conduct any defence,” Kanu declared.

The IPOB leader had previously applied for witness summons, having earlier indicated his plan to call witnesses following the court’s adjournment on October 24 for him to open his defence.
Kanu’s latest position effectively turns the spotlight on the legality of the charges and the sufficiency of evidence presented by the prosecution.
