Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.

Adeosun, who served in Buhari’s cabinet from August 2015, took to her official Facebook page on Tuesday to reflect on the privilege of working under the late president’s leadership.

“Good night, Your Excellency. It was the greatest honour to serve Nigeria under your leadership and a pleasure knowing you personally. Rest in Peace, Sir,” she wrote.

Signing off with “Mai kudi,”—a Hausa phrase meaning “one who has money”—Adeosun recalled the nickname fondly used by Buhari to refer to her during her time in office.

The tribute however drew widespread reactions from Nigerians, with many commending the former minister’s professionalism and her contribution to the nation’s economic policies.

George Pamma described Adeosun as a “national treasure,” saying her policies were worthy of academic study.

“NYSC or not, Kemi Adeosun is a national treasure. Her policies should be a course taught in our universities if we were smart as a people,” he wrote.

Another commenter, Babatunde Ayantola, praised her service under the late president.

“Kemi, you served under him with honour and integrity. May the Almighty Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus. Ameen.”

Similarly, Abubakar Sadiq Alkubawi hailed Adeosun as a public servant who understood her role and executed it with excellence.

In his message, Prince Bon-Malik lauded the former minister’s professionalism and expressed hope for her return to public service in the future. “Indeed, an exceptional professional you were—despite the detractors. We’ll look forward to the future when you’ll bring your wealth of professionalism to bear!”

He added, “Until then, let’s together mourn our dear mentor, baba, and hero. May he find comfort and easiness as he journeys to the great beyond.”
