Labour Minister Urges Nurses,Midwives to Shelve Planned Strike, Embrace Dialogue

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has appealed to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to suspend their proposed strike and engage in continued dialogue with the government.

In a meeting held Tuesday, the Minister urged the health workers to consider the far-reaching implications of industrial action, especially on the country’s healthcare system, stressing that dialogue remains the most effective path to resolving disputes.

A statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by Patience Onuobia, Head, Press and Public Relations Ministry of Labour and Employment quoted the minister as saying: “Strike is not the best solution to industrial disagreements,” while also calling on the Association to give room for ongoing government efforts to address their concerns.

The discussions between the two parties are set to continue on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Health, as part of the government’s commitment to finding an amicable resolution.

The meeting is seen as a proactive step by the Ministry to prevent disruptions in the healthcare sector, which relies heavily on the services of nurses and midwives across the country.
