The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have announced plans to stage a peaceful solidarity protest march to the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) on Tuesday, February 3, in support of members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).

The planned rally, according to the two labour centres, is aimed at reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the JUAC struggle and to publicly demonstrate that an injury to one worker is an injury to all.

The unions said the action would be lawful and peaceful, while details of convergence points and timing would be communicated through respective affiliates.

A joint statement signed by the Acting General Secretary of NLC, Benson Upah and his counterpart from the TUC, Nuhu Toro, urges JUAC members to remain steadfast, resolute, and courageous in defending their rights and dignity, stressing that the struggle is rooted in justice, fairness, and respect for labour rights.

They emphasized that unity of purpose and collective resolve are essential to achieving a just outcome.

Workers in the FCT under the umbrella of JUAC had been on strike for alleged poor treatment by the Administration, but the National Industrial Court in a ruling recalled them to work as judicial deliberation on the matter continued.

The labour centres further warn against intimidation, repression, or attempts to wear down workers through hardship and fear, declaring that there would be no retreat or surrender. They noted that history has shown that workers’ rights are never freely given but won through collective resistance and principled struggle.

Directing all affiliates and state councils in the Federal Capital Territory to mobilise massively for the protest, the unions assured workers in the FCT Administration that they are not alone and will not be abandoned.

The statement, signed by Comrade Benson Upah, Acting General Secretary of the NLC, and Comrade General N.A. Toro, Secretary General of the TUC, reaffirmed that the labour movement remains firm and committed to sustaining the struggle until justice is done.
