NAICOM partners with the SDGs Initiative to boost insurance awareness and empower Nigerian youths.

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has pledged to collaborate with the SDGs Synergy Initiative to raise awareness on insurance and strengthen youth involvement in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

This is as the Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Finance and Administration, Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, highlighted the Commission’s ongoing partnership with the Federal Ministry of Youth to engage one million youths in capacity building.

A statement on Wednesday by the commission said he stated this during a courtesy visit by the Initiative to NAICOM headquarters in Abuja.

He commended the Synergy Initiative’s proposal, assuring that NAICOM would support efforts to deepen insurance penetration while empowering young people.

Earlier, the Executive Director of the SDGs Synergy Initiative, Usman Lawan, explained that the group, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is preparing to host a youth summit in collaboration with the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN).

The summit, he said, will raise awareness on youth participation in achieving the SDGs, strengthen collaboration with international partners such as the Brazilian Embassy, and define specific roles for Nigerian youths in SDGs implementation.

Lawan further called for NAICOM’s partnership in sensitizing youths on the importance of insurance as part of the broader SDGs engagement.

The visit underscored a shared commitment by both organisations to promote financial literacy, expand insurance inclusion, and position young Nigerians as key drivers in the attainment of the global development agenda.
