Naija Ratels may not have taken the points on Matchday 3, but they won admiration and respect with a spirited performance in their 5–0 loss to Bayelsa Queens — a display that showed heart, commitment, and the promise of brighter days ahead.

Facing one of the most formidable sides in the NWFL Premiership, the Ratels refused to be intimidated. Though the Prosperity Girls were clinical in front of goal, the young Ratels showed fight from start to finish, displaying energy, determination and periods of organised play that kept them competitive despite the scoreline.
Bayelsa Queens struck early through Ojiyovwi Kesiena in the 12th minute and doubled their lead when Kindness Chinasa converted in the 36th minute. But the Ratels regrouped quickly, tightened their structure, and ensured the half ended without further damage.
The second half saw the Ratels come out with renewed energy, pushing forward at moments and trying to force openings. Even as substitute Alaba Olabiyi netted twice in the 73rd and 80th minutes before Delight Isaac added a late fifth, the Ratels never dropped their heads — a show of resilience that impressed fans and officials alike.
Despite the result, Naija Ratels remain optimistic as they continue to rebuild a young, vibrant squad capable of growing into one of the league’s strongest units.
Coach Sabo Okala praised his players’ mentality after the match.
“The result was not what we wanted, but my girls will not let this weigh them down,” he said. “In all fairness, Bayelsa Queens are a strong side, and they took their chances. But my players kept their heads up, kept fighting, and that’s the spirit we carry forward.”
Bayelsa Queens coach Whyte Ogbonda acknowledged his side’s victory but also commended the Ratels for their attitude and work rate.
With their positive mindset and fighting spirit, the Naija Ratels walk away from this match with their pride intact — and with clear signs that this young team is growing, learning, and ready to bounce back stronger in the weeks ahead.
