The Nigerian Cricket Federation (NCF) board elections have produced a mix of continuity and renewal as Endurance Ofem secured re-election as Technical Representative while Olumide Akintokun clinched victory as Players’ Representative.
The elections, conducted during the federation’s Annual General Meeting, saw Ofem defeat Chineze Onwizurike by 30 votes to 6, sealing his third consecutive term on the board.
Akintokun, on the other hand, earned a decisive mandate with 37 votes to become the voice of Nigerian cricketers at board level.
Speaking after his victory, Ofem described his re-election as a mark of trust and a call to do more for Nigerian cricket.
“I think I must say I’m privileged to be serving a third time on the board. It shows clearly the commitment I bring to the table,” he said.
He praised NCF President, Uyi Akpata for his visionary leadership, noting that Nigerian cricket has expanded rapidly under his stewardship.
“In eight years, we’ve gone to two World Cups and the game is all over Nigeria. I find it difficult for anyone to say he’s not doing enough for cricket. To be serving on that board with him, I feel humbled and honoured,” Ofem added.
Reflecting on his past contributions, Ofem highlighted efforts that secured players’ contracts, expanded international touring opportunities, and created pathways for players in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Looking ahead, he pledged to expand Nigeria’s cricket frontiers: “We want to go through the hub system so that every region can benefit from the top coaches in this country. That way, development will not be limited to a few centres but spread nationwide.”
For Akintokun, his election represents more than a personal victory — it signals a shift towards innovation in Nigerian cricket governance.
“I’d say I’m elated. You might not see it on my face, but deep down, I’m very thrilled to have gained this position today,” he said shortly after the results were announced.
Akintokun stressed that the game must move beyond old patterns of administration.
“We’ve been doing the same things the same way, expecting different results. This goes to show that the cricket fraternity has seen the need for us to change ideas and freshen things up so that we can progress in the sport.”
He promised to bring a unique blend of corporate administration, creativity, and governance into his new role as Players’ Representative.
Together, the two representatives are expected to shape crucial aspects of Nigerian cricket — from player welfare and contract systems to coaching structures, grassroots development, and international exposure.
With Nigeria’s male and female Under-19 teams already making their mark at global tournaments, the new board will be tasked with sustaining momentum and building stronger pathways for future generations.
